encoding - VB.net will not read text file correctly -


i've been trying use streamreader read log file. cannot verify encoded in, when open in notepad++ , select ansi encoding, result:

i'm getting characters needed when using ansi followed things [null][eot][soh][nul][si]

when try , read file in vb (using streamreader or readall) ansi encoding selected resulting string wrong.

how read file in vb.net?

you use io.file.readalltext("file location", encoding system.text.encoding) method,

dim textfromfile string = io.file.readalltext("c:\users\jason\desktop\login20130417.rdb", system.text.encoding.ascii) 'or unicode, uft32, uft8, uft7, bigendianunicode or default. default ansi.

if still don't text need using default encoding (ansi), can try other 6 different encoding methods.

the massive amount of null data suggest file corrupt, explain why not getting lot of data whenever try read file.
