html - How do I make a 2 column layout with a fixed header and footer in CSS? -


i have been looking tutorials on while , coming across problem. have layout fixed header @ 100px in height , fixed footer @ 50px in height. in content, have menu on left @ 200px wide , content on right fills rest of screen. header, footer , menu have styles applied background colours , borders.

what want footer remain @ bottom of window, or @ bottom of content, if content longer. want menu same height content, styles have applied remain intact. get either footer sticks bottom of content because content shorter menu, or there gap between bottom of menu , top of footer.

every tutorial have found fixes this, but requires menu have no background (it takes background styles <body> tag. said, styles have applied attached menu. there way fix this?

update: source can found @ http://jsfiddle.net/53szd/3/. have now (apologies if floats cause manner of headaches), if there ways have looking how want, open suggestions.

seems u might using float property on menu, if case have clear float footer or div, seeing codes great answer
